Update from Pat Tipton
Wed. I was at my computer at 4:00 a.m. With coffee in hand, I prepared to take advantage of our one computer while Bob was sleeping. The sofa seemed to vibrate a bit. My thought was that I must be a little dizzy headed... stomach perhaps? Then the vibrating increased and the decorative little lantern candle holder that hangs from a stand on the coffee table began to swing rather steadily. By this time I didn't need coffee to keep me awake. Strange gurgling sounds were coming from the sink. Then all settled down just as suddenly.
In spite of trips to California I had never experienced earth tremors so it was a new experience for me. When Bob awakened a few hours later, he remarked that I seemed more awake than usual, sort of wide eyed. Of course he had slept so soundly that he was astonished at how many people were talking about the tremors of the night before.
In addition, the day dawned bright and clear so that we had a beautiful view of snow capped Llaime from our balcony ( it and Viarici are the largest active volcanoes in Chile). It was producing a larger than usual plume, exquisite!
Today I was at the church from 7:30 a.m until 7:00 p.m. Four other women and I were the team that served breakfast, elevens, lunch, tea time for the men's retreat. They cooked. I did dishes, set tables, served tables etc. It was an experience that I must share with you later.
Bob is still there. The men are continuing their study. I don't know when they will stop to start the asada (their version of barbeque). They do this for themselves. They will eat about 10:30 I was told.
